Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Title in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of that year.
Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
